The tower crane is the safest piece of equipment currently operating in NBV, it is subject to strict OSHA Regulations 29 CFR 1926.1400 which include rigorous daily inspections, and monthly tests and inspections.

The jib—the big horizontal section at the top of the tower crane—cannot be repositioned when the crane is not in use, because it must be free to move. When the crane is not operational, it is put into a “windvane” mode, to allow the jib to freely swing around—like a windvane—based on the direction of the wind, to prevent damage in a high-velocity wind condition.

The tower crane may look ominous, but it is extremely safe!  See attached, the initial inspection report, and tower crane specifications.
